Why Shia Labeouf Is An Iconic Chameleon of An Actor

Of the many performers to ever grace the silver screen, only a small number can be agreed on as being worth of the title ‘actor’. And one of these talented personalities is none other than 35-year-old American artist Shia LaBeouf. Known for his eccentric lifestyle which never fails to grab the latest headlines such as his performance art display during the 2014 Berlin Film Festival — wherein on-goers were treated to a neatly-dressed LaBeouf walking the red carpet with a brown paper bag over his head with the words “I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE” — Shia LaBeouf is indeed one of the most unusual characters of the 21st century.

However, this preference for the bizarre and different which is clearly translated to his acting techniques is what makes the actor stand out from the rest of the pack with a style that no other performer can completely mimic.

Shia LaBeouf is a versatile actor who can fit into any role he is given regardless of the genre. Some of his most notable performances include mirroring his father and their troubled relationship in Honey Boy, confusing viewers of the thriller film Disturbia who were unsure if LaBeouf is just acting high or if he really was under the influence during filming, portraying an over-the-top gangster in Tax Collector (for which he had a tattoo permanently inked across his chest), and his most memorable performance as the dorky protagonist of the Transformers series.

Shia can basically do it all. His acting style can be described as being detailed down to the smallest nuances — from body language to the delivery of lines, Shia LaBeouf pays very close attention to how his character can be portrayed in the most believable manner possible. The renowned actor relies on his art of playing around with dialogue in order to get the message across — immersing viewers to his character and forgetting the image of Shia LaBeouf all together.

Another technique that Shia has mastered is the art of method acting — an acting style which encourages the actor to fully empathize with his character’s motivations, inner feelings, and overall train of thought. And in the process, the actor actually becomes the character. With viewers of his works obviously absorbed into the roles he plays; Shia LaBeouf is definitely a brilliant method actor who will continue to make his presence known in the industry as an iconic chameleon of an actor.
