Missy Elliott Is The First Woman Of Hip Hop To Be Nominated To The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

Missy Elliott, also known as Melissa Arnette Elliott, made history in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame when she became the first woman of hip hop to ever be nominated in the prestigious ceremony. Known as the ‘Queen of Rap’, she is a hit American rapper known for hits such as ‘Work It’ and ‘Get Ur Freak On’ — Missy is also respected for her groundbreaking work in other genres namely R&B.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is one of the most iconic hall of fame classes to be included in — especially in the world of the music industry. Known as an event that celebrates and honors the world’s greatest musicians and performers, being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is a prestigious title that is more valuable than getting an award or any other form of recognition.

While there are many other classifications that make up the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, it is the ‘performers’ category that receives a regular batch of inductees every year. And with the occasion not only the most important milestone in an inductee’s career but also an event that happens annually, the amount of star power and celebrity presence that the event attracts every year is one that many fans highly anticipate.

Reacting to the news of her nomination, Missy, in a press release, said, “This is an incredible honor. I’m so humbled and grateful to be counted amongst all the incredible honorees.” Furthermore, she continued, “I’ve spent my career making the kind of music I love and it means so much to know that I have touched others as well.”

With a little bit more to share on her feelings towards the one-of-a-kind nomination and the milestone that she will achieve, Missy remarked, “But to hear that I am the first female hip hop artist to EVER be nominated into the Rock & Rock Hall of Fame?!? Wow!! This one hits extra different as I hope it opens doors for other female emcees to be recognized!”

While the achievement Missy Elliott will make when she is officially inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is definitely worth celebrating — the 51-year-old superstar is no stranger to being honored for her trailblazing work in not only the hip hop scene but also in the entire music industry.

Some notable awards under her name include the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Missy Elliott is indeed one of the finest artists of this generation, and she has earned everything she has worked for to this day. Congratulations!
