Introduction: American actress Angela Bassett has made history by becoming the first Marvel actor to win a Golden Globe award for her role in "Wakanda Forever." Bassett was awarded the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in a film portraying Queen Ramonda in the sequel to "Black Panther."
Bassett's Acceptance Speech
In her acceptance speech, Bassett paid tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who died of cancer in 2020. She spoke about the loss of Boseman and how the "Wakanda Forever" cast and crew came together. Bassett said, "We mourned, we loved, we healed, and we were surrounded each and every day by the light and the spirit of Chadwick Boseman."
She also acknowledged the impact of the "Black Panther" series on the world, highlighting the representation it provided for the black community. Bassett said, "With this historic 'Black Panther' series, it is part of his [Chadwick Boseman's] legacy he helped lead us to, we showed the world what black unity, leadership and love looks like beyond, behind and in front of the camera."
The actress also addressed Marvel fans, thanking them for their support and love for the characters. She said, "We just made history with this nomination and with this award. It belongs to all of you and all of us".
Previous Golden Globe Nomination and Win
This is not the first time Bassett has been nominated for a Golden Globe award. In 1993, she was nominated and won a Golden Globe for lead actress in a film, comedy, or musical for her role in "What's Love Got to Do with It," a biopic about Tina Turner.
